Dr. Sadaf Khattak

Dr. Sadaf is a compassionate and highly experienced psychiatrist with a strong commitment to delivering holistic, person-centred mental health care. Her clinical focus is on supporting women with complex care needs—particularly those living with multiple psychiatric and physical comorbidities. She is also the founder of the WIMIN Health project, a collaborative initiative designed to reimagine integrated care for women with treatment-resistant mental health conditions.

Dr. Sadaf has a special interest in Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) as well as trauma and its long-lasting psychological impacts. She is a member of the Australian ADHD Professionals Association (AADPA) and is passionate about improving access to accurate diagnosis and evidence-based treatment for ADHD across the lifespan. In parallel, she is deeply committed to supporting individuals affected by trauma—recognising how traumatic experiences can shape emotional regulation, cognitive functioning, and relationships. Her therapeutic approach is trauma-informed, compassionate, and centred around building trust, promoting resilience, and empowering patients through collaborative care.

Dr. Sadaf commenced her medical career at the University of Peshawar, Pakistan, where she cultivated a deep commitment to equitable and compassionate healthcare. During the early years of her practice, she served in disaster-affected and medically underserved regions, delivering critical care to communities with limited access to health services. Her dedication to complex and cross-cultural care pathways continued following her relocation to Australia in 2008, where she undertook specialist training in psychiatry through Monash Health. She was subsequently awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) and later completed a Master of Psychiatric Medicine at the University of Melbourne, further enhancing her clinical and academic expertise in contemporary psychiatric practice.

With extensive clinical experience spanning nearly two decades, Dr. Sadaf has worked across a wide range of psychiatric services, including inpatient units, community mental health teams, Headspace, the Agile Psychological Medicine Clinic, Women’s Prevention and Recovery Care (W-PARC), and the Gender Clinic. Her work across diverse regions—such as the Peninsula Shire, Casey Cardinia, Dandenong, and Clayton—has deepened her understanding of cultural diversity and strengthened her ability to deliver care that is not only evidence-based but also sensitive to spiritual values, cultural identity, and the broader social context.

Dr. Sadaf believes in a collaborative, culturally responsive, and evidence-based approach to psychiatric care. She recognises that mental health is deeply intertwined with a person’s cultural identity, spiritual values, and lived experiences. Drawing from her own multicultural background and extensive clinical work across diverse populations, she is committed to delivering individualised care plans that are uniquely tailored to the person.She strives to create a safe, respectful space where patients feel seen, heard, and understood.Her approach thoughtfully honours each patient’s strengths, family values, and the perspectives of their general practitioners, ensuring that treatment is not only clinically effective but also fosters long-term recovery through shared, person-centred goals. Fluent in Pushto, English, Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, and Hindko, Dr. Sadaf navigates cultural and linguistic diversity with ease, creating safe, inclusive, and culturally attuned spaces where individuals and families feel supported and empowered in their healing journey.
